Aliens Alumini to Make Practical FX Creature Feature

Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Jr. who got Oscar nominations for Best Visual Effects for Alien3 (they also worked on Aliens, Predator, Tremors, etc.) are trying to make Harbinger Down, a practical creature FX film in the vein of John Carpenter's The Thing and Alien but they need your help via Kickstarter! Lance Henriksen is also onboard to act in the movie, and Robert Skokak will be doing miniature FX for the film (he won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects for Aliens). What is Kickstarter? It's a way for people to pledge money to a project, and in return, get signed DVDs, posters, production diaries, etc. Click here to basically pre-order a Blu-ray of the film along with a signed poster and more (you can even get Lance Henriksen to record an audio message for you or you can tour ADI Studios).

Remembering Alien

A group of researchers from a couple different universities in the UK are embarking on a major international study of people's memories of Ridley Scott's Alien. You can click here to take part in a brief questionnaire, designed to let people share their recollections of a fantastic piece of film history. They're interested in hearing from anyone who has ever seen the film regardless of whether they enjoyed it and including those who saw it during its initial release in theatres (parents and grandparents alike). They'd like to rival a similar survey that was done a few years ago of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings. You can also follow them on Twitter @rememberalien.

Deleted Scenes for Prometheus

Obviously, if you haven't seen the film yet, don't watch these. Thanks to PrometheusForum.net and Antovolk for this video. I really think some of these should've been included in the movie. Hopefully, a more fulfilling extended cut will get released sometime down the road. For fans who've seen the theatrical cut, here is a good interview with Ridley Scott where he actually talks about the meaning of the film and answers some questions on it.

Update: Fox removed it. Here is a tiny bit of it with a huge iTunes ad. Some more is over at IGN.

Alien 3: The Gun

Very different from the film like all the Alien 3 games but still pretty fun especially with the pulse rifle you got to use. Thanks to kakoroto for uploading this. I added a few other YouTube clips here.

Siskel and Ebert Review Aliens

They don't like Aliens because it's too intense? That is so ridiculous. At least, Ebert still gave it a thumbs up, but come on. They make it sound like the whole film is non-stop action, and that isn't true. Their review lacks any real depth and doesn't talk about all the things the film does right with the story, the characters, the sound, the music, the cinematography, etc. There really are not that many battle scenes, but the movie works so well that it feels like there are a lot more. You get a ton of character moments and dialogue scenes except they're extremely well executed so the characters are always doing something: barricading themselves in, trying to figure out their next move, etc. Critics can be so full of it.

Resurrection's Cut Scenes

Even if you hate Resurrection like I do, it has some really good deleted scenes that never should've been taken out, but I guess they wanted to make it as bad as possible. You should see this scene though. It's better than anything in the movie, and it makes no sense why they cut it. This one is also quite good. I've updated Resurrection's Deleted Scenes with these and a few others as well as a couple embedded videos.

Burke Cocoon Scene

For those of you who haven't seen it, here it is from the Alien Anthology Blu-ray. I was actually kinda disappointed with this scene, because I had been dying to see it for so long, but Paul Reiser's performance here isn't very good. Plus, it feels awkward with the staging and everything. It's pretty obvious why Cameron cut it although I'm still glad to finally see it. Thanks to shakermakerman on YouTube.

I added this, along with quite a few other videos, to the Aliens Deleted Scenes.

Another Cameron Interview

On the series Hollywood's Master Storytellers, Cameron discusses the making of T2, Titanic, and Aliens.

Monday, August 27th, 2012

Aliens On Set

Some rare footage from the Alien Anthology Blu-ray. You can see how Cameron directs his actors and blocks out a scene with them. Biehn doesn't look too happy. Maybe because of the friction with the British crew or something else going on behind the scenes.

AvP Mugen

It has allowed anyone to create characters, background stages, and other game objects through interpreted text files, images, and sound collections. You can download the AvP version here. Below is a video of it in action. Thanks to Michael for the download link and djHYPN0TIZE for the video.

Alien's Cut Scenes

Updated the Deleted Scenes subsection for Ridley Scott's masterpiece. There are now embedded videos for almost every scene, and you can even see a comparison between the way the infamous Dallas cocoon scene appears in the Director's Cut versus how it was originally edited. Plus, I have a clip of Ronald Shusett discussing the scene.

Cameron on AvP

I read an interview where Cameron said he actually liked AvP. I much prefer what he says in this video.

Neca's Colonial Marines

We might finally get action figures of all our favorite, state-of-the-art badasses courtesy of Neca. The only two coming right now are Hicks and Hudson, but if they sell well (and I can't see how they won't), the rest should be a done deal. Personally, I want a Dropship and APC too.

Bloody Disgusting snapped a photo of Hudson at the San Diego Comic Con. Lookin' good. No crazy robo arm. I still have a soft spot for the Kenner ones though despite their strange liberties. A second picture of Hudson popped up on a forum. Not sure who to credit for that. Nothing has been shown of Hicks yet.

Classic Cameron Interview

I figured you guys would enjoy this. They go over some similarities between Aliens and Them, how key cast members had copies of a certain sci-fi novel on set, etc.

Custom Alien and Aliens Toys

I fuckin love these especially the retro-style packaging. Sadly, they're all sold out. They were listed on an eBay store (they do have some other awesome ones though including a few for John Carpenter's The Thing). Another Ripley is floating around out there in an eBay auction, but she'll cost you around $100.

I've got more pictures and details in the new Custom Figures subsection (if you know of any other toys that should be listed in there, email me). Special thanks to JimSmash, Freddy in Space, and of course, popsfartberger who made them (yeah... that's all we got to go on name wise, but the guy is obviously a badass).

New Prometheus Trailer and Q&A

I tried to resist, but I couldn't. Had to watch it. Looks absolutely incredible. Just hope it doesn't spoil too much. If there's one man who can make a good Alien prequel, it's Ridley Scott. Why can't it be June already?

Thanks to AvPGalaxy for uploading this Q&A to YouTube.

Over at Ain't It Cool News, you can also read an interview with Scott and Lindelof.

Bootleg Prometheus Trailer

The quality sucks, but it still looks awesome especially with the music and sounds from the original Alien trailer mixed in. Can't wait for the official HD version. Thanks to AvPGalaxy and their source James Smith for the video.

Update: Fox pulled it. Big surprise. Here's a video of stills from the Comic Con footage.

2nd Update: Fox took down the other video too.

Enthusiasts can buy a 9x12 print of the anatomical Alien here, and Brad McGinty will translate his Japanese text into English for you.

Fassbender on Prometheus

When asked whether or not there's any connection to Alien, Michael Fassbender, one of the stars of the new film Prometheus, told MTV News, "Oh, absolutely. There's a definite connecting vein. You realize you're part of something else, but it's definitely in keeping with the old ones." According to Sky Movies, the film will feature a giant animatronic Space Jockey along with an enormous head piloting a ship. H.R. Giger is also rumored to be involved as an advisor. I'd say it's still a prequel then, but they want to be careful how they're selling it, probably to keep some of the surprises intact and to make sure it's not hindered by its place in the timeline. The film is scheduled for release in June 2012.

Alien Anthology Egg Packaging

The Limited Edition Egg Packaging version of the illustrious Alien Anthology Blu-ray set can now be pre-ordered from Amazon for $149.99.

Goodbye Prequel

In a new press release, Ridley Scott announced an original film called Prometheus in place of the Alien prequel.
"While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place," said Scott. "The keen fan will recognise strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn't be more pleased to have found the singular tale I'd been searching for, and finally return to this genre that's so close to my heart."
I don't know how I feel about this. Does that mean Fox will leave the Alien series alone or are they going to try to do a remake now? I wasn't dying to see a prequel, but I'd rather Scott do that than Fox ruin it some other way. Why couldn't Scott or Cameron just do a sequel with Sigourney? Does it really have to end with Resurrection and AvP?

The Digital Bits has an incredible inside look at the making of the Alien Quadrilogy. It has an in-depth interview with DVD producer Charles de Lauzirika where he discusses how he got involved and the whole production process as well as his efforts to get Fincher involved. It even has a short little Q&A with Ridley Scott. Later on, they'll also have a brand new piece about the Alien Anthology.

I've started updating Alien 3's Deleted Scenes. In the mean time, be sure to check out the Weyland-Yutani Archives for an incredible, in-depth comparison between the workprint and the assembly cut. There are also a lot more details on other little-known cut scenes with plenty of evidence to back them up.
