Comics

In 1988, Dark Horse began publishing the Aliens comics, which greatly expanded the universe of the movies. The first series was black and white. It featured a strong compelling story that picked up where the second film left off. Many fans think Alien 3 and Resurrection would've been tremendously improved if they had followed the comics. One interesting concept presented in them is the idea that an impregnated person could infect another individual through his sweat. Unlike the movies in which no one dared touch a story where Earth was consumed by Aliens, the plot of the comics started with this event. They also featured key characters from the films such as Hicks, Newt, and Ripley although the names of the characters were changed for future printings after Alien 3 was released. The artwork of the comics is beautiful especially in the second series. In Earth War, the idea of a Queen Mother was introduced. Superior to regular Queens, they had telepathic abilities and ruled over the Hiveworld. In Genocide, two different subspecies of Aliens fought each other while the Colonial Marines tried to steal royal jelly for themselves. The list of excellent stories goes on and on. Today, new comics are still being created.
